The Choices of Natural Stone

Posted by admin | Learn it | Saturday 31 January 2009 4:44 pm

Stones of the past seem to be the future!Stone is a product of nature and its appearance is a result of millions of years of geologic change and mineral composition. Extreme color variations, as well as variations in veining, shade, finish, texture, strength, hardness and density are all characteristics of natural stone. Some stones may contain a resin filler to fill in the natural fissures or pits in the stone’s surface. Special care is required for maintaining natural stone. Check with a local sales representative regarding the special needs for your stone selection. With proper care, its beauty will last a lifetime.

Granite:(Igneous Rock) Granite began as liquid magma in the earths core and is comprised mainly of quartz, feldspar, mica and other minerals. It’s high compressive strength, hardness and durability make it an ideal choice for flooring and counter tops as well as exterior applications.

Marble & Onyx: (Metamorphic Rock) Marble is formed from Limestone that has been heated by the earth’s core and changed into a crystalline structure. It is valued for its rich, beautiful colors and unique veining.

Limestone:(Sedimentary Rock) Limestone is comprised mainly of calcium carbonate and is the result of millions of years of sea shells and bones of sea creatures settling on the ocean floor. You can sometimes notice the fossils when examined closely.

Travertine: (Sedimentary Rock) Travertine began as Limestone and is a result of hot springs in the earth’s core. After the water evaporated, the layers of dissolved limestone and minerals gave the stone its banded appearance. The characteristic holes in the stone are a result from gas bubbles which evaporate and form crystals in the cavities. These cavities are sometimes left as is for a more rustic & antique look or filled with a tinted epoxy and honed for a more solid surface effect.

Slate:(Metamorphic) Slate is formed from compressed layers of the sedimentary rock shale that can be split to reveal beautiful colors and textured surfaces. Slate can be split and left with its natural cleft surface or gauged for a more consistent thickness.

Quartzite: (Metamorphic) Similar to slate, quartzite contains 95% quartz and a higher concentration of mica which gives it a sparkling texture. The current trend in stone is definitely travertine – as old looking as possible.

There are several things that can be done to stone to create new finishes. Here is a list of popular finishes:

Antiqued:This can mean different things to different manufacturers. The surface is usually brushed or honed with different pads, creating an old look. Sometimes the surface is acid washed, exposing a dimpled surface (this works especially well with travertine). The edges tend to have a chipped or tumbled look. Basically the stone looks like it’s been around a while.

Brushed:Wire brushes are used on the surface to create an undulated look.Chiseled: There are various methods used to produce this look, but basically the edges come out chipped. Generally the surface of the tile is honed or brushed.

Cobbled:Basically the same as chiseled, but the chips aren’t as deep.Honed: A matte surface is created similar to polishing, minus the last few pads. High Hone:A matte finish with a soft sheen, between honed and polished.Polished: Pads are used to create a glossy sheen on the surface of the stone.

Tumbling: Tumbled stones are put in a big cylinder and tumbled with other stones and smaller stones to create a rounded edge and softer finish. Length of time in the “Tumbler” determines how rounded the edges are. Softer stones, such as travertine, tend to have a more rounded edge than harder stones, such as marble.

How to Find Information on Natural Remedies

Posted by admin | Learn it | Saturday 31 January 2009 3:04 pm

Are you interested in using natural remedies to your advantage?  If you are suffering from pain associated with a headache, toothache, or arthritis, you may be.  Home remedies can also provide assistance with those looking to kill head lice, remove an unsightly wart, and so much more.  In fact, that is one of the reasons why home remedies are so popular, because they can be used to treat, cure, or seek relief for a number of minor medical complications.

If this is the first time that you are looking to try a home remedy, you may be unsure as to how you should proceed.  When getting started, it is important to remember that home remedies come in a number of different formats.  This means that a home remedy used to treat a headache may not provide relief for a toothache.  That is why it is important that you do the proper amount of research before trying a home remedy.

Speaking of doing the proper amount of research, there are a number of different ways in which you can go about finding home remedies.  One of the easiest ways is to use the internet.  Online, there are a number of websites that are devoted to natural remedies and home remedies.  These websites often list a large number of home remedies for a number of different minor medical complications, including irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, the chicken pox, and so forth.  The information on most of these websites should be free to view.  You may also be able to find online message boards where other internet users are discussing home remedies, namely those that worked.

As for how you can find these online websites and message boards, your best option is to perform a standard internet search.  When doing so, you will want to target your search to exactly what it is you are looking for.  For example, if you are looking to seek relief from a painful migraine, search with a phrase such as “natural remedies for migraines,” or “natural remedies for headaches.”  This simple step will help to give you targeted results, which can reduce the amount of time that you have to spend searching.

Natural remedies can also be learned about by speaking with those that you know.  Typically, you will find the best success when speaking with someone older than you, like a parent or a grandparent.  This is because in the past more people relied on natural remedies than they did over-the-counter products and medications.

Another easy way to familiarize yourself with natural remedies is by buying a natural remedy or a home remedy book.  When doing so, you should have a number of books to choose from.  You may find the best success with books that are larger in size, as they often outline more remedies and cover more medical complications that can be treated naturally.  For the largest selection of natural remedy books and home remedy books, the internet should be examined, but a small number of these books are also sold locally in book stores as well.

As you can see, there are a number of different ways in which you can go about finding information on home remedies, including detailed directions for preparing a home remedy.  The next time that you find yourself looking for relief, try a home remedy, as opposed to an over-the-counter product.  Chances are you will be pleased with the results.

Braun Electric Razors Publicized to be the Best

Posted by admin | Learn it | Friday 30 January 2009 7:40 pm

Watching TV advertisements for mens electric razors is like watching a whodunit film. You never know what the latest and best feature is going to be. Braun commercial claims that their make has the finest feature of revolving heads that will conform to even the coarsest of faces. It will move over your face and cut every hair close because of the turning blades.

Another product will claim their shaver will cut closer than any other shaver because it has five blades that will lift the beard higher and cut more of the beard than any other make. I get tickled because I wonder how high a beard can be lifted before the skin is cut along with the beard. I can just see the commercial where the chap shaving comes away with such a clean-cut beard that he doesn’t have a face anymore.

I also get a kick out of those who advertise that their machine is convenient and watertight. They show a man driving his car and shaving while he stares into the rear view mirror. I ponder, about him seeing an on-coming vehicle. Then of course, you have the chap in the shower happily singing while his glossy new shaver is cutting his beard. I often ponder if there is ever a short in the shaver. Does the guy get a shock when the water hits his face.

One market the advertisers seem to neglect is the women’s market. I have seen very few advertisements that endorse shavers for ladies to use. This is a big market that is not being utilized by the main brands. My wife loves her new womens electric shaver because it does a good job of removing her hair without cutting herself.

The power behind CRM software

Posted by admin | Learn it | Friday 30 January 2009 7:03 pm

CRM entails all aspects of interaction a company has with its customer, whether it be sales or service related. Computerization has changed the way companies are approaching their CRM strategies because it has also changed consumer buying behavior. CRM software is used to support these processes, storing information on current and prospective customers.

Information in the system can be accessed and entered by employees in different departments, such as sales , marketing , customer service , training , professional development , performance management, human resource development , and compensation .

CRM data also provide companies with important new insights into customers’ needs and behaviors, allowing them to tailor products to targeted customer segments. Information gathered through CRM software often generates solutions to problems outside a company’s marketing functions, such as supply chain management and new product development.

Business studies tell that the longer the company keeps a customer, the more money it will make in the long run. This is due to the fact, that customers always spent a little money in a new business relationship, and a lot more. Businesses embark on hosted CRM software projects for a variety of reasons, but more than 85% expect to increase revenue by better understanding their customers.

Unfortunately, the insight to understand customers better is sometimes buried deep in a database or siloed among different departments. Businesses planning to invest in a new solution need to insure that the solution is flexible, scaleable, and integrates quickly and easily.

Ideally, the solution will be easily installed, so deployment is fast and easy so ultimately users will be up and running immediately, including wireless devices.

Remember: CRM is about people behaviors, relationships and employee actions – so change management is essential for many projects. Keep in this in mind and your business will go in good path!

Suggestions for a cozy winter evening

Posted by admin | Learn it | Thursday 29 January 2009 10:01 pm

Winter has come – in many areas there is already enough snow to make the landscape look like in a fairy tale. And that brings us directly to the topic: Why not read some tales again? There is a wonderful new book with tales: The Tales of Beedle the Bard (german title: Die Märchen von Beedle dem Barden by Joanne K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame. It contains five wonderfully illustrated tales (the illustrations were done by J.K. Rowling herself) and is surely going to be a bestseller soon.

My next suggestion is a real classic: “The Pillars of the World” by Ken Follet (again, as I am german, the german title: Die Säulen der Erde), a novel with colorful insight to life in the medieval ages in England. A very complex story about quite a lot of people involved in building a cathedral or some in trying to prevent it…

And if you like the writing style of Ken Follet and if you like the middle ages – why not stick with him and read “World without End” (german title: Die Tore der Welt) It is somehow a sequel to “The Pillars of the World”, as it plays in the same city only 200 years later and some of the protagonists are descendants of the first book’s heroes. At a closer look it a self-contained independent story, but as captivating as its predecessor!

Compact Binoculars and Other Gifts a Bird Watcher Would Would Wish For

Posted by admin | Learn it | Thursday 29 January 2009 2:44 pm

There is no hobby which can be compared to ornithology when it is a matter of getting together with other people, learning to distinguish birds from different species. If you know someone who is into this, you could surprise them on their birthday by buying something that matches this interest. So, what do bird watching enthusiasts want as gifts?

The easiest and most reasonably priced gift is a hat. This would not only prevent hair disturbing their line of vision, but prevent possible sunburn also. The next item could be a pair of cargo pants with many pockets so they can put snacks and other items inside.

Something which has a greater number of pockets than this is a bird watching vest, which could be even more useful. Instead of retrieving things from the back pack, they can use the pockets to keep everything they need for the day. When you know their old backpack is in a dilapidated condition, you could get them a new replacement. Backpacks come in various sizes and you do not require a large one since these people travel light.

The most costly gift idea for a bird enthusiast is a pair of good inexpensive compact binoculars. The distance and the field of view which the viewer can see depends on the lens of the binocular and this can make the binocular an expensive prospect, but this makes them the best compact binoculars. There are plenty of so called best binoculars but varieties in binoculars, and price range too with the top-of-the-range versions able to be used in complete darkness; others can capture images, both still and moving. Since birdwatchers usually log which species they see, where and their numbers, so a bird watching journal could be a great idea for a present.

If the bird watcher is a beginner, they may appreciate a subscription to a bird watching publication. Published monthly (sometimes quarterly), they are able to see pictures of birds which frequent distant places around the world. If you are cash rich, you could think of sending the person to a bird watching vacation to another part of the Americas, North or South. Of all the varieties of birds, there are still vast numbers that live outside of America although some might visit during certain seasons.

So what is the right gift that you ought to buy? A small discussion can throw up plenty of possible options which should make choosing a gift which they will be happy with that’s within your budget. Who knows? Then who knows, you could be part of their expeditions instead of simply supporting them.

Using Mirrors to Create the Illusion of Space

Posted by admin | Learn it | Wednesday 28 January 2009 9:20 pm

Scientific tests have proven that those people who have mirrors around their house tend to exhibit more confidence and do better in life. helping increase your self-confidence, mirrors help you with interior decorating issues, particularly if you do not have much space to play around with.

Interior decorators will recommend you to hang a large wall mirror if you want to give the illusion of having more room or space. If it is a case of a room that’s not as big as you would like it to be and you’re not enamoured at the prospect of taking down partitions or replacing all the furniture with something that might make the room seem broader, a few well-positioned whole wall mirrors might very well give the desired impression. By reflecting the entire room, mirrors can give the impression that there is twice as much room available.

However, you cannot just go placing mirrors anywhere you feel like it. Mirrors cannot do any good if large items of furniture are blocking the mirrors, for example. Select a wall that will give people fewer opportunities to see their reflections because this could lessen the illusion of space that you are wanting to produce – opposite some good oak bookcases could be an ideal spot.

Of course, mirrors come built-in to certain items of household furniture in some rooms – vanity sinks, for instance, will have a mirror which will add to the sense of depth and space.

To create the best illusion of space, study the layout of the room and identify those parts of it that are not opposite where people sit. Remember that the mirrors don’t have to cover the entire wall surface, just the entire height. If you do it right, your floor to ceiling mirrors should create the illusion that there are entrances into different rooms, building the illusion of extra space.
