A Balloon Arch

Posted by admin | Learn it | Monday 29 June 2009 3:48 pm

Introduction

Whenever there is a special event being held, the organisers want to make an impact or find something novel to wow the people attending the event. Sometimes there are ice sculptures or huge displays of flowers, maybe swathes of fabric, all intended to make an impression on the guests. One novel idea is to have Balloon sculptures or a Balloon Arch. They are bright, colourful and impressive structures which catch the eye and are a fantastic way to make an impact at your event. There are balloon arches to compliment any occasion, whether it is a wedding, promotional marketing campaign event or special celebration such as 40th wedding anniversary.

Usually when there is a special event, profession balloon decorators would be engaged to make an eye catching arch of colour or combination of colours which can be twisted to greater effect. There is a choice of a huge selection of any number of colours, from basic colours to pearl shine and metallic finishes, when combined in a creative blend, they will augment any decor you may choose.

Professional balloon party decorators would know how to prepare a balloon arch and use electronic equipment to measure the precise amount of helium to fill the balloon to achieve a uniform size for the best results.

However, if you are an aspiring balloon sculptor then you might like to attempt a balloon arch for yourself.

Here is How You Make a Balloon Arch

Materials:

Latex Balloons (The number will depend on the size of the arch), Nylon Line (Like that used for fishing), 2 Weights, Balloon Sizer, Curling Ribbon or tulle (Net), Helium in canister

Stage 1

Cut the nylon thread (fishing line) to the precise, length required (See formula below)

Arch length formula

  • If the arch is wider than it is tall: Height + Width = approximate total length
  • If the arch height and width are about the same: (1.5 x Height) + Width = approximate total length

If the arch is taller than it is wide: (2 x Height) + Width = approximate total length

Stage 2

Both ends need to be tied to something heavy to hold it in place while you work.

Stage 3

Using the balloon sizer as a guide, inflate the balloons with helium so that they are a consistent size. (A cardboard circular template can be used if you have no sizer.)

Stage 4

Secure the balloons on to the line (always approaching the line from the same side)

Stage 5

Leave approximately 12″ between each balloon. Once they are tied on the balloons can be moved smoothly to the required position so that it is firm and the shape you want.

Stage 6

Release the ends of the line from its holder and fix a suitable weight to either end of the arch to hold it in place. It can be a star weight or frilly foil weight.

Stage 7

Any enhancements can now be added to the arch such as curling ribbon which is allowed to hang down or tulle festooned to give a wedding effect.

Helium Balloons

Balloons filled with helium gas are lighter than air which means they float upwards. Professional quality balloons are made from 100% biodegradable latex and are usually larger in size than most retail packet balloons. Helium filled latex balloons from your wholesale balloon suppliers usually only retain their buoyancy for a few hours. The enclosed helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex through which they escape. To increase the float time of a helium balloon for up to a week, the inside of the balloons is coated with a special polymer solution to minimise the leakage of the helium.

Safety and environmental concerns

Helium filled balloons once released into the atmosphere usually travel a long way before they finally burst or deflate. An estimated 90/95% of balloons released rise to an altitude of 5 miles, at which height the cold will cause the balloon to become brittle and shatter into miniscule pieces. The small fragments then floating back to earth to degrade into the ground. Because the latex from which balloons are made comes from the Hevea tree they are completely biodegradable and the dyes used in latex colouring are also non-toxic. Research has demonstrated that latex balloons degrade faster than oak leaves. Oxidation occurs first in the breakdown of latex and it begins within an hour of a balloon being inflated. As the decaying process is by natural exposure the nutrients are released into the soil.

Balloon Sculptures and Arches

Even though hundreds of balloons may be needed for sculptures and arches, they are often restricted because of the round shape of the balloons. More ambitious “sculptures” have been attempted on occasion but mostly they are restricted to simple walls or arches.

There are many events where balloon arches could be used. The most popular type of arch is a single row of pearl latex balloons with co-ordinating ribbons. Often they provide a focal point at a wedding for a couple to pass through either at the service or at the reception. They may serve as a frame to outline other displays or for photograph taking, or just to enhance a feature at the venue. The arch is held in place by a hand-made weight covered by a bow. Sometimes balloons arches are used for table decorations at special events with smaller balloons for each arch. The decoration will usually include curled ribbon with an added weight to stop the balloons from floating away.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that balloon arches make a wonderful eye catching centre piece for any event|occasion|festivity}. There is an unlimited choice of colours and effects, helium balloons can make a particularly interesting balloon arch at a relatively low cost. They are a spectacular alternative to arches of flowers or drapes and provide a lively talking point for guests. Whatever your celebration may be, whether it is a wedding, birthday or special anniversary, or a corporate event, the balloon arch will give a special flavour to your occasion enhancing the total experience.

Posted by admin | Learn it | Sunday 28 June 2009 4:26 pm

Banner stands are being used more and more for business promotion and increasing product awareness. Banner stands are a great way to make a promotional presence at exhibitions, conferences, training events and reception areas. For indoor and outdoor use, banner stands are a great display stand option.

Bannerstands are the gem of exhibition displays because they are:

1) Highly portable and lightweight
2) Excellent value for money
3) Quick and easy to assemble

Yet in deciding to purchase a banner stand, there are a few steps you need to consider before you buy.

Where you will be using the banner stand and for what purpose?
The use of the banner stands will affect the type of banner stand that you decide to buy. You could ask yourself these questions:

Do I need a single or double sided banner stand?

Does it need to be portable and will it have to fit into the boot of a car?

Do I need to change the message on the banner at a later date?

Do I need to link this banner to another banner?

How frequently will I use the banner stand

What type of banner stand?
You will need to decide on the type of bannerstands that are best for you, based on your answers to the above questions. Roller banner stands, telescopic banner stands and rigid banner stands all have uses that are suitable for varying environments and usage. Some are extremely light for easy portability, while others are stronger to stand up to the rigors of exhibition life, while others have the flexibility to change graphics quickly and efficiently.

What is your message?
Deciding on the message for your banner stand is the first step. You need to think long and hard about what you are trying to achieve with this portable display. For instance:

Is it to increase your business image?

To convey what your business specializes in?

To promote a product you manufacture or distribute?

To inform and educate about a service or special offer?

Where to buy banner stands?
There are many display stand companies out there, but few that can supply the complete package of great choice, value for money, excellent customer service support and complete graphic design support. POD Exhibitions have been supplying banner stands for over 10 years and have years of experience in the exhibition stand industry. They can provide artwork studio support to help with the smooth transition of providing the artwork to them for printing. They also offer guarantees on all of their products and work with you to get your banner stand and graphics to you for your event deadline.

Artwork for your banner stand?
After you have decided on the banner stands you require then you will need to prepare your print ready artwork. You will need you to supply the appropriate logos, text and pictures. You need to decide which banner stand style you require so you can give all appropriate specifications to your designer and also plan your use of the stand.

Create affiliate money with co registration.

Posted by admin | Learn it | Sunday 28 June 2009 3:51 pm

Co registration is the process of gathering email addresses by offering customers the chance to sign up to your list when they sign up to an simular email list. It has been an reserved technique used by a few Internet marketers for years and has only come into the main stream over the past year or so. Co reg has been kept a secret due to the power it has to build on demand emails for next to nothing.

So how do co reg companies work? Well co reg companies will have access to thousands of website that have opt in forms that they can use to build your list. When a co reg campaign is set up the co reg company will match the type of compaign to the relevant website in their network and when someone signs up to one of those sites they are offered the opportunity to join your list also.

Most Gurus will admit that co reg is the best internet marketing method around. When you are looking for a co reg broker make sure you find out the following before parting with any money:

  • Are the leads posted to an auto-responder in real time?
  • Are the leads targeted?
  • Does the company offer an incentive to people for signing up?
  • Are the opt in boxes pre-checked?
  • Do they offer a cancellation period?

The last point is very important as you don’t want to have to pay for thousands of leads that you don’t need or want. Make sure that you can cancel your order when you’ve reached your marketing budget limit. Another reason to make sure you can cancel is that some brokers will ask for an insertion order of $5000 and if you can’t cancel you’ll find yourself getting burnt. When contacting brokers make sure you find these details out and if you are asked for an full upfront payment avoid them.

Are all Colombian Emeralds Treated?

Posted by admin | Learn it | Sunday 28 June 2009 3:31 pm

For all practical purposes you have to assume that all emeralds are treated with oil, resin, polymer or a combination of more than one. Most Colombian emerald rough is now getting treated before it even reaches the cutter. This can be a problem for the faceter because they need to see the flaws in order to align the rough before cutting.

Are emerald enhancements a problem for the consumer? Only if they are not disclosed or if someone is trying to sell you an untreated emerald at a premium. If someone tries to sell you an untreated emerald without proof from a major lab you should not buy it.

Remember emerald treatments have been going on for hundreds of years and are accepted worldwide in the business as long as they are properly disclosed. A moderate level of treatment is the baseline for prices with heavily treated stones selling at a discount and lightly enhanced or untreated selling at a premium.

How can you tell the level of treatment in a Colombian emerald without a lab report? The best way to do this is to count the number of surface reaching fissures  on the table of the emerald. Take out your loop and hold the emerald at an angle so that you can see a reflection off of the emerald’s crown. Now look for little squiggly lines running across the table, as those are surface reaching cracks. The cracks are where the emerald treatment enters so roughly speaking the fewer fissures you have the less treatment has been added. Fissures are natural but while you do this you will also be looking for cracks. A crack that runs across any part of the emerald will be an automatic no buy. Look at a number of emeralds that are comparable and pick the one that has the fewest surface reaching fissures. An acceptable number of surface reaching fissures depends on the size of the gemstones and other factors but I shoot for about 0-3 in a 1-carat emerald. I’m more forgiving in larger emeralds but stricter in lighter colored emeralds.

Please be sure to only raid her closet while you know she’ll be away for an extended period of time. ie: at work. You’ll need some time find her fashionable accessories. She’s good at hiding stuff too. Women always love to buy used things especially when they know that the purse or women’s shoes they are looking for are in great shape or gently used.

TIP 2: Other used stuff that’s selling online, and for top dollar these days are your husbands or boyfriends tools, fishing gear, or whatever else he thinks is ‘cool’ or ‘a treasure’ that every guy want’s to have! Heck, if you really wanted to make some decent cash, sell that LCD or Plasma TV that you can’t tear him away from when there’s a game on. Sell that used TV and you’ll have all his attention, good or bad GUARANTEED! Guys love to buy used electonic stuff, like tv’s car stereos, speakers, video games or used apple products like the iphone. Can a Golf GPS device improve your golf game?

Posted by admin | Learn it | Saturday 27 June 2009 3:45 pm

The world of gadgetry is filled with electronic toys that get used once or twice and then find themselves sifting down to the bottom of the kitchen knick-knack drawer. The hype on most of these gadgets is appealing, but rarely do they live up to their promises.

Many golfers are wondering the same thing about GPS golf rangefinders. With a fairly steep entry price, you don’t want to spend money on one unless you are sure it will work.

I did a search for Golf GPS reviews and didn’t come up with too much useful information, so I decided to do a test myself. I got 3 golfing buddies who own GPS units and we headed out to a local course. For each shot, all three of them would use their device to see how it measured shot distance and distance remaining to the pin or middle of the
green. In addition, I carried a laser rangefinder and paced off all distances from the installed yardage markers. My clipboard was filled with a stat sheet to keep track of all the readings and results.

The conclusion I came to was that most of the GPS devices gave readings that were within 2-3 yards of each other. All were quite accurate from the fairway. Further away in the rough was more difficult and the cheaper GPS devices didn’t do as good a job of calculating the distances from these positions.

All the GPS golf rangefinders were within +-3 yards from what the laser rangefinder read, and were within +- 2 yards from the distances I paced off from the yardage markers.

You may conclude that it would be just as good to have a laser finder or just use the yardage markers. That is true, except for the speed. Laser rangefinders take about 30 more seconds per hole, on average to get your yardage than the GPS device, and pacing off took an average of 75 seconds less. That speeds up play by about 1/2 an hour per round just by itself, and that is a very good thing. Plus, if you are off the beaten path a lot, it can be hard to find yardage markers and with the laser rangefinder you are out of luck if you don’t have a visual of the flagstick.

The most impressive aspect, however, is the ability of the GPS device to give very accurate yardages to potential problem areas – bunkers, water hazards, etc. By knowing how far you have to fly the ball to clear the water or sand can be the difference between a par and a double bogey.

If you just want a basic yardage and the ability to see how far you hit shots (this knowledge will help you make better decisions in the future), one of the GPS golf units under $200 are fine. If you want some of the more advanced features or a color display, plan to spend around $400. If you are and avid golfer, it is worth putting on your holiday or birthday wish list.

Some of the most popular brands of GPS devices for golfers are SkyGolf, GolfLogix, Golf Buddy, Garmin and OnPar. Some devices require you to pay an annual subscription to download new courses. Others let you download courses for free. That’s a feature worth looking for. The most popular brand seems to be the SkyGolf SkyCaddie series of GPS
rangefinders. It’s interesting to se a list of all SkyCaddie GPS units to know which features you want or need.

All golf GPS rangefinders and simple to use and most will automatically detect where you are and load the right course (providing you have that course stored on the device). After that, features differ from model to model. Most golfers will use the basic features most. Serious golfers will appreciate the advanced features of the high end models, and
golfers who love to keep stats between rounds will love the models that have those features.

Check out the new golf GPS devices. You will love them and unless you are an absolute beginner, they will help improve your game.

Spend a Summer Season Fruit Picking in Britian

Posted by admin | Learn it | Saturday 27 June 2009 1:46 pm

Spending a summer season picking fruit is hard but satisfying work. As many European studies have found over this and the previous summers Broadwater farm is a great place to earn some money and use as a base to explore the UK.

Broadwater Farm in England is a traditional UK Fruit Farm, set in the beautiful Kent countryside. The farm produces crops of Bramley and Gala apples, pears, cherries and plums. This top quality fruit is supplied to retailers throughout the UK. During the summer months (June, July, August, September and October) students arrive from many European countries to spend their summer holiday fruit picking and experience living and working in the UK.

Accommodation is provided in well-appointed mobile homes. For evening entertainment there is a television lounge and a broadband internet connection. The farm is one hour by train from London and 10 minutes’ walk from the town of West Malling for supermarkets, pubs and restaurants. Nightclubs and shopping in Maidstone are a short train or bus journey away.

Broadwater Farm has invested in a fruit picking train – a system which has proved popular with the farmers and workers, following a trial in 2007. To attract students to farm work a website has been set up which enables potential applicants to see what apple picking in the UK is all about. Photos of current and previous harvesters, their accommodation and the farm itself illustrate the opportunities far more clearly than words.

Their website does more than attract students to the summer farm work. It provides useful checklists of things to do before leaving home and on arrival at the farm in the UK. After a summer of fruit picking and apple harvesting they can reminisce over photos of their colleagues and read up-to-date news of activity on the Farm.
