Considering a variety of energy options
We should be doing everything workable to develop geo-thermal energy technology. Though largely undeveloped, this form of free energy has immense possibilities and it is produced from the earth itself. Enormous quantities of energy lie under the upper crust of the earth, on which we lie, and all that is necessary is to tap the source and take control over it.
At the Earth’s’ center, the temperature is sixty times more than that of water being boiled and the tremendous heat creates forces that exert themselves only a couple of miles below us. These pressures contain large amounts of free energy and there are tons of heated fluids in the form of magma, which can be seen pouring out of the earth, during a volcanic eruption. These fluids also trickle to the surface as steam and come out from vents.
We could also make these vents and at the same time build appropriate chambers where the magma can be arrested for later conversion to free energy, which would produce electricity to light or heat up our homes. To produce a geo-thermal plant, a well needs to be dug in an area with abundant source of magma or super hot fluid, then a pipe has to be used to bring up the fluid on to the surface level to get the required steam power. The steam would operate a turbine, which in turn would produce electricity.
Much denouncement of the process of tapping for geothermic free energy is forestalling any large-scale production. Critics claim that finding the right area for tapping these resources would be too costly as well as time-consuming. Then setting up a geothermic power station is also very costly, with no guarantee of any future profits. It might be found that a geothermal site is ultimately not making adequate steam to make the plant feasible or promising.
Even conservationists have stated their concern that pumping up magma could also carry with it several damaging materials. However the benefits of geothermic energy far outweighs such comments if only we explored it deeper. The fact is this is the energy of the Earth herself means it does not develop any pollutants. geothermal energy is an cost-efficient free energy source – easy to develop after site identification and the set up of the plant to produce it.
A geothermal plant is also not as huge as say a dam or an atomic free energy unit, making it a lesser risk to our environment. Using this alternate source of energy would naturally reduce our dependence on coal and oil. The best logic in the favor of geothermic energy is that it would not finish and its value would not increase with time, since it would be present till the earth exists. Since in the end the use of geo-thermal energy is cost-effective the cost of building the power station can be recovered in no time.
If you are looking standard energy products to heat your home then try electric radiant flooring or radiant floor heating systems. and of course one of our favorites is the direct vent gas fireplace.
